Phil DeGroot
Ag Banking Team Lead
“My dad always said, ‘If you get your work done, find more work to do. We lived on a dairy farm, and there were always things to do.”
Phil was immersed in the agriculture community from a young age, as he grew up farming with his family in Doon, IA. He continues to farm with his brothers to this day, when he’s not with customers in the field.
Phil’s favorite aspect of farm visits is being able to ride along in customers’ combines, tractors, and sprayers. Calling First National Bank the “best bank in the tri-state area,” Phil says he appreciates that the Bank is family-owned and offers a great work environment for their employees.
“I enjoy all of the ag bankers I work with, but am especially thankful for our wonderful assistants, Cathryn, Jill, and Kari.” Phil’s support system consists of people both at home and at work. At home, he is supported by his wife, Jen, and their three children.
When Phil isn’t at work, farming, or riding bike, you can find him teaching Sunday School or coaching his kids’ sports. He also volunteers as a member on the Sioux Empire Stater’s Board and for the Sioux Empire Ag Chamber Division and Farm Show.
Phil has nearly two decades of experience in the banking industry and is a graduate of SDSU.
